What Is Textile Color Card

Aug 20, 2020

Textile color card is a piece of cloth or fabric designed to represent a larger whole. Usually a small sample taken from an existing fabric is called a swatch, while a larger sample trying to test the printing production method is called rejection. For ordinary dyed fabrics, it is called laboratory dip dyeing; for yarn dyed fabrics (such as stripes and checks), it is called hand looms.

The use of swatches is an essential part of the design process because it enables designers to show the type of fabric to be used, and demonstrate the true appearance of colors and different materials and accessories before solving the complete design problem.

Swatches also have the advantage of illustrating how colors and patterns are displayed on the actual fabric, which may not be easy to see in paper or digital designs.

Textile manufacturers may aggregate many material samples into one sample book, so that salespeople can show potential customers multiple available designs in various colors without having to deal with multiple rolls of fabric at once.
